How did I made it to the competitive SSBM scene ?
I quickly got really good at Super Smash, always beating my older brother and friends. I was visiting Nottingham, England with my parents and there happen to be a SSBM championship at the same time near where we were staying. I asked my parents if i could participate. They were not so happy about the idea of me going there at such a young age.
My brother helped me convincing my parents to let us participated and they finally agreed.
We then borrowed two controllers from a local shop, paid the entry fee and we were in. I could not believe my eyes. Everything was insane. Hundreds of people gathered to play a 2001 video game. It was mind blowing for me.
My first match was so stressful my hands were shaking and i could not play as good as I usualy do. I lost my first. I will always remember how he shaked my hand at the end of the match saying "don't give up kiddo". I could not explain why but it helped me to calm down and focus on my second match.
If i lost this match, I would have been eliminated from the tournament but I actually ended up wining 7 matches in a row. I finished 54th over 473 participants which is a huge performance for a first timer. This was the start of my e-sport carreer and love for competition.
